It is the mission of the Chicago Public Library (CPL) to provide Chicago residents with free and equal access to information, ideas and knowledge. Building on a comprehensive technical plan that CPL recently began implementing in its 81 locations throughout the city, Libraries Online! will enable the library to expand access to information technologies and the Internet to underserved and ethnic neighborhood residents. CPL envisions the public computer center and training materials created with Libraries Online! resources will serve as a model for delivering technology to other large underserved communities in urban areas, both in Chicago and the rest of the country.
