The mission of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) is to be a force for education, information, recreation, and inspiration in the communities it serves. The design of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Libraries Online! project directly supports the service philosophy leveraging this mission statement. Successful execution of the Libraries Online! project has permitted CLP to further the implementation of this vision by establishing within its East Liberty Branch an eight-station multi-media learning laboratory for the benefit of the neighborhoods disadvantaged residents. CLP and the Libraries Online! project provide local communities with ready and equitable access to a wide range of resources to support formal and informal lifelong learning, to meet personal and professional needs for information, and to provide opportunities to explore contemporary and classic culture. The visionary steps that CLP continues to take toward equity on the information highway, especially with help from programs like Libraries Online!, show that it is a library moving toward the next century with technology as an imminent part of its mission. |
